YFC - young people in the countryside

NORTHANTS YFC

So what's Young Farmers all about then?

We're a voluntary organisation for young people aged between 10 and 26, run by the members for the members

    • Do you want to meet people your own age and make new friends?
    • Are you aged between 10 and 26?
    • Are you interested in the countryside and rural issues?
    • Would you like an active social life?
    • Would you like the chance to travel at home and abroad?
    • Do you want to learn some new skills?
    • Do you want to have fun?

You can do all this and much more if you join your local

Young Farmers' Club

"But I'm not a farmer!!!"

Nor are lots of our members so that's no problem.  Young Farmers' Clubs are for people from all walks of life, students to surveyors, mechanics to teachers, and some farmers too, of course...

All you need is an interest in the countryside and things rural.

What's going on in Northamptonshire?

We have 5 Young Farmers' Clubs in the county:

Grendon, Kelmarsh, Oundle, Thrapston & Towcester.

We also run a Countrysiders Club especially for 10 - 14 year olds that meets during the school holidays

What happens in a Young Farmers' Club?

Each Club has a regular meeting night - Monday or Wednesday - and a very varied programme of events, including talks, trips out, sports, discos...

There are lots of social events to go to, sometimes at other Clubs or in other counties, so there's always the opportunity to make more new friends.

Everyone's encouraged to take part in County and National activities as well - there's a wide-ranging competitions programme which will give you a chance to learn something new and compete for your Club or County

Who organises the Club?

Each Club has its own Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and other officers, elected once a year by the Club members.  Every member has the opportunity to take on these roles if they wish, and training is available to help them.  Club members get involved in arranging the programme of events so it suits a variety of tastes.

So what happens when I'm 27?

You can no longer take part in National competitions but you can become an Associate member and stay involved with your Club and the county - maybe as a Club Leader, an advisory member, or as a steward or judge at competitions.

Past members are a vital part of the organisation.

It sounds good - what do I do next?

Why not take a look round the rest of our website and then contact us for details of your local Club.

Join us, join in, see what you've been missing!!
